O autor explica a dificuldade de utilizar o SMS para um serviço nos EUA. Para se ter uma idéia de acordo com o post, só uma palavra chave e conexão com um agregador custaria mais de 36k por ano fora o custo de cada SMS e custos operacionais. Ou seja, um investimento razoável para se levar em consideração, principalmente se for uma startup.

Ele comenta ainda o caso do Twitter que matou o suporte ao SMS em UK:

“So I’m not surprised to see Twitter cut costs, but what I’m surprised to see is that they decided to cut support for U.K. instead of introducing a revenue model and validate it; people will pay for useful services.”

Concordo com o ponto que ele destacou. Pessoas pagariam para usufruir do SMS no entanto, a funcionalidade simplesmente deixou de existir para UK. O curioso é que enquanto uns “abandonam” o uso SMS (seja pelo preço ou outra razão) outros fazem negócios.

Coincidentemente ainda no dia de ontem, conheci esta startup que acaba de lançar a funcionalidade SMS para o twitter com cobrança por pacotes de mensagem, inclusive em UK.

Relativamente simples? Talvez. Esse mercado pode ser bem complicadinho às vezes.
